Artificial Intelligence of Things: Empowering Next-generation Smart Applications
Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) systems, which seamlessly merge sensing capabilities with artificial intelligence for IoT devices, have empowered a new generation of smart applications in several important sectors, including transportation and healthcare. According to Markets and Markets, the global AIoT market is projected to grow to $16.2 billion by 2024, boasting a compound annual growth rate of 26.0%...
Novel non-invasive therapy for gastric acid reflux: electronic stent for wireless electrical stimulation

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract provides noninvasive access to the internal lumen of the body, where numerous health-related information can be obtained. Additionally, some chronic gastroesophageal diseases need long-term in situ monitoring and treatment, which requires devices or implants to remain in the gastrointestinal tract. However, operating bioelectronics locally for a sustained period within the GI tract remains a challenge. A collaborative research team led by Professor Li ZHANG from the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Philip Wai Yan CHIU, and Professor Kai Fung CHAN from the Faculty of Medicine has developed wirelessly powered electronic stents for a new electrical stimulation therapy which could prevent and potentially cure gastric acid reflux.

Breakthrough techniques taking nanoscale 3D printing into a new era

Multi-material 3D fabrication at nanoscale has long been the holy grail of nanotechnology, and a key enabler for the development of new technologies – including photonic, electronic, and biomedical devices. Professor Chen Shih-Chi and his team from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, in collaboration with Professor Zhao Yongxin from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU)’s Department of Biological Sciences and Professor Zhao Ni from CUHK’s Department of Electronic Engineering, have developed a new 3D nanofabrication platform that realises multi-material fabrication. For...
