Professor XU Yangsheng has been elected the prestigious Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering

It is the honour of the Faculty that Professor Xu Yangsheng of the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering has been elected the prestigious Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). Member of CAE is the highest academic title in engineering science and technology in China. It is a life-long honour presented to those who have made significant and creative achievements and contributions in the fields of engineering and technological sciences. The election of the new Members is conducted biennially. In 2007, the CAE elected 33 new "Members" , and Professor Xu is one of the only two new members elected in Hong Kong....

CUHK Students Swept Top Award in National Technological Competition

Students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) swept the Hong Kong and Macau Cup in the 10th Challenge Cup held at Nankai University, Tianjin from 15 to 19 November 2007. Two Special Awards were presented to two outstanding CUHK projects, namely “Millimetre-Scale Turning Centre” and “Redevelopment of Hongdeng Primary School in Guangxi”, out of a total of 56 entries from Hong Kong and Macau. The “Millimetre-Scale Turning Centre” was developed by Mr. Chan Ngai Shing Sunny, a Mphil student of the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, supervised by Prof. Du Ruxu. Two Professors from the Faculty have been awarded the prestigious IEEE Fellows

Prof. Dah Ming Chiu and Prof. Max Qing Hu Meng have been elected the prestigious IEEE Fellows effective from 1 January 2008 for their contributions in their respective research areas: (1) Prof. Dah Ming Chiu (Department of Information Engineering) - for contributions to distributed resource allocation algorithms in computer networks. (2) Prof. Max Qing Hu Meng (Department of Electronic Engineering) - for contributions to medical robotics. The prestigious IEEE Fellowship was founded by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the world largest electrical and electronics association. The award is only given to individuals who have significant contributions and achievements to research and the society. Including Prof. Chiu and Prof. Meng, there is a total of 21 current teaching and emeritus/honorary professors of the Faculty who are IEEE Fellows....
